Free to the People Theatre: A Midsummer Night's Dream

Free to the People Theatre: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Artists: Heather Hamilton & Patti Ruskey

Project Recap:

This production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was performed by a mixed cast of seasoned professionals, young professionals, community members, and children. This was “rough” theatre in that scenery and costume expenses were minimal, relying instead on found materials and the creativity of the production team. Children in the audience were invited to join in Titania’s fairy dance. The “feel” of the production was joyful, enthusiastic, messy, and inclusive.

As the name implies, the goal of Free to the People Theatre is to bring Shakespeare to areas of Mankato that might not have easy access to live theatre as well as to facilitate community participation in the dramatic arts and to give community members an opportunity to work with professionals on a Shakespearean play.

There will be a second performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in collaboration with the Unity Totem installation on September 21.
